Meet Brian Richardson
April 24, 2020

What is your spouse and children’s names?
My wife is Kristen and our children are Ella and Cora.

When did you first start coming to Redeemer Fellowship?
We came to very first Sunday to check it out, but we didn’t start coming back until the following summer.

What is your family’s favorite spot in Newark?
Chick-Fil-A

Are you a Blue Hen (did you graduate from UD)? Yes/No If not, where did you graduate from?
NO. I graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.

What do you do for work? What do you like about it?
I work as a science teacher in North East, MD. I like the relationships with most of my students, and the summers off.

How long have you been married and how did you meet?
Six years. We met when we were both working at a camp in North East, MD called NorthBay. Kristen had been working there for a few years, and I moved to the Newark area work there. I met her briefly on my first day, and we got to know each other more on my second day during a staff lunch. On the third day we were on the camp’s boat and she let her hair down and it waved in the air and smelled like heaven. I knew then I would marry her.

What is your comfort food during global pandemic?
A pizza with more toppings than just cheese.

How and when did you become a Christian?
I become a Christian in the summer of 1991 during a week at a Young Life camp. I heard the gospel for the first time there. I was in a place where I needed to hear that God loved me in spite of my sin and the mess that my life was in. I had felt unlovable, but when I heard God loved me through that I gave my life to him.

What is your favorite bible verse or biblical truth?
2 Cor 5:17

What do you love about being a part of Redeemer?
I like that everyone is approachable and welcoming. I like the intentionality and the focus on Scripture. I like communion every week and building community through fellowship groups.

Are you from Delaware originally? If not, what brought you here and when?
No, from Virginia. I moved up here, taking a big risk by leaving my teaching job to follow a dream and work for an environmental education camp in North East, MD. I’d say it worked out.

What is your most practical life tip?
Stay off your apps on your phones.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Did you like it?
Octopus. The first bite was ok. I didn’t much of the rest of it.
