What are your names?
Rachel & Kaleb
What are your kid’s names?
Our dog’s name is Zeke!
When did you first start coming to Redeemer Fellowship?
We started coming a couple months after the church plant started, probably around November 2018.
What is your or your family’s favorite spot in Newark? (Restaurant/park etc)
Can’t beat UDairy.
Are you a Blue Hen (did you graduate from UD)? Yes/No If not, where did you graduate from?
We’re currently attending UD for grad school (Kaleb in mechanical engineering and me in environmental engineering). We went to Messiah College together for undergrad.
What do you (and your spouse) do for work? What do you like about it?
We are graduate research assistants at UD. We like that we’re at the same place together working toward our PhD’s at the same time so we can share in each other’s journey. We also like our research and the broader implications of what we are doing, and the people we get to work with!
If you are married, how long have you been married? How did you meet?
We’ve been married since June 2019 (so not even a year yet). We met at Messiah. We both ran track and cross country together, as well as had a lot of the same classes since we were both engineering majors.
What is your comfort food during a global pandemic?
How and when did you become a Christian?
We were both raised in Christian families and became Christians when we were young but we’ve really been learning and growing together in our faith, especially over the past couple of years.
What is your favorite bible verse or biblical truth?
Kaleb – Hebrews 12:1-2 because it shows the reality of how sin affects us but is encouraging because we can throw off that sin, keep our eyes on Jesus and overcome through Him.
Rachel – Matthew 5:16 because to me in encompasses everything I want to be as a Christian – a beacon of light in this world for Christ, loving on others, so that they might see Jesus through me and glorify God.
What do you love about being a part of Redeemer?
We really love being part of Redeemer’s family; we were looking for a smaller church where we could really form connections and fellowship with others, and we definitely found that here. We also really like the way Joel preaches because it is so focused on scripture and it’s interpretation and how that is applicable to our lives.
Are you from Delaware originally? If not, what brought you here and when?
Kaleb’s originally from Marlton, NJ and Rachel is originally from Lancaster, PA. We were brought here to pursue of PhDs at UD.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Kaleb – Kaleb loved his joint karate-themed birthday party with one of his childhood best friends! Also, as a side note, he has a black belt.
Rachel – My family used to own a trailer down off the bay by Bethany Beach and we would go there every summer, ride the boat, go clamming, catch crabs, and everything in between.
What is your favorite app on your phone today, and why?
Kaleb – Premier Soccer League App or Spotify
Rachel – Notes App (because I like to make lists and keep our lives organized)
What is your most practical life tip?
Kaleb – All you need is God, love, and a dog.
Rachel – If you ever need inspiration, search for some Winnie the Pooh quotes (after reading your Bible, of course).
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Did you like it?
Kaleb – pickled deer heart – No.
Rachel – alligator – it tasted fishy so some people would probably like it but definitely not me!
