What are your and your children’s names?
Michael & Darby. Our daughter is Maisie Grace.
When did you first start coming to Redeemer Fellowship?
Summer 2019.
What is your family’s favorite spot in Newark?
We’re fairly new to the area – so we’re still learning! Our favorite place to go as a family is the Wilmington River front. We enjoy constitution yards and the delaware environmental education center. We’re excited to get to know Newark better though!
Are you a Blue Hen (did you graduate from UD)? Yes/No If not, where did you graduate from?
Nope! Darby went to a small school in knoxville Tennessee and Michael attended trade school (along with the school of life).
What do you do for work? What do you like about it?
Michael is a plumber with Horizon services. He likes that it’s a steady job that supports our family with a great company. Darby is a house keeper, teacher, administrative assistant, chauffeur, and chef – AKA a mom. She loves pretty much all of it!
How long have you been married and how did you meet?
We’ve been married for about 3 1/2 years. We met at a coffee shop. Darby was a barista and Michael came in every day for an iced coffee. Turns out he was interested in more than just the coffee!
What is your comfort food during global pandemic?
Food. All of it. We’ve been enjoying the spring weather and grilling some! Other than that, we’ll eat about anything. And definitely using this as an excuse to snack a little extra!
How and when did you become a Christian?
Darby was raised in the church and surrounded by a strong spiritual support system her whole life. She became a believer at a young age. Michael came to the church in his 30s (which are quickly going by!). I (Darby) love having the perspective of someone who wasn’t raised on veggie-tales and Christianese! I’ve learned so much from him because of it!
What is your favorite bible verse or biblical truth?
In times like this it’s the simple truth that God is good. His goodness is not swayed by a virus or my attitude (which is great because we’d be in big trouble if it was!).
What do you love about being a part of Redeemer?
Our favorite part about being a part of Redeemer is first, the value the church puts on the Word of God. Followed by the people. We spent a lot of time looking for a church and felt so disconnected from a community. As soon as we started attending Redeemer people reached out and genuinely wanted to get to know us. We are loving the relationships for building and can’t wait to watch them grow!
Are you from Delaware originally? If not, what brought you here and when?
We both are!
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Darby – the Christmas my brother was in the hospital. Sounds crazy, I know! But my family really learned to value what was important. We made the best of a hard situation and actually had a great holiday (and don’t worry, he was fine).
Michael – family game nights! I’m very competitive. We still enjoy game nights today!
?
Darby – my camera. I love to capture memories of our toddler (just don’t ask me how many photos I have!!!). Followed by Marco pollo. Right now when we can’t see our friends and family it’s a great way to stay connected!
Michael – my podcast app! I could listen to podcasts all day long – theology, football, you name it!
What is your most practical life tip?
Darby – when shredding chicken, use your kitchen aid mixer. This is probably obvious, but I didn’t know this until recently. Shreds in seconds and changed my world.
Michael – righty tighty, lefty loosey. Can’t go wrong.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Did you like it?
Darby – a chicken heart. 10/10 DONT recommend.
Michael – shark or alligator I guess? I liked them both!
