What are your names?
Caleb & Chachi (Courtney)
When did you first start coming to Redeemer Fellowship?
We began consistantly attending August 2019.
What is your family’s favorite spot in Newark?
We love Roots. Chachi could eat there every day if she was able.
Are you a Blue Hen (did you graduate from UD)? Yes/No If not, where did you graduate from?
No. We both graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park…Go Terps!
What do you (and your spouse) do for work? What do you like about it?
We both work on campus with Cru at UD! We love it. Caleb was a mechanical engineer before that and Chachi started working with Cru right out of college. We love engaging with students and encouraging them in their walks with the Lord. We both were tremendously impacted by Cru at UMD, so we love pouring back out. It is a privilege to devote ourselves full time to reaching and investing in students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
How long have you been married and how did you meet?
We met in college through Cru. We dated for two years, one of which we were across the world from each other (Chachi in Australia and Caleb in America) and then got married December 16, 2017. So just over 2 years now!
What is your comfort food during global pandemic?
Caleb – Rice Pudding; Chachi – Hot cheetos and coffee.
How and when did you become a Christian?
Caleb – I became a Christian at an early age (5 or 6) when I felt like I needed to know how I could have a relationship with Jesus. I feel it was the Holy Spirit that drew me to go and ask my mother how I could do this. She explained the Gospel to me and I prayed then and there for him to forgive my sins and take the driver’s seat in my life. From then on I’ve felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. Though not perfect with many highs and lows he has proven faithful.
Chachi – I became a Christian the spring semester of my freshmen year of college after being involved in Cru.
What is your favorite bible verse or biblical truth?
Caleb – Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Chachi – One that has always stuck with me is 2 Corinthians 5:17 “When a person is in Christ they are a new creation. The old is gone and the new has come.” We’re all new creations in Christ and I think that’s one of the most beautiful things.
What do you love about being a part of Redeemer?
Caleb – I love how intentional Joel and Jason are with loving the members and newcomers of the church. You never feel like you have been overlooked or that they are too hard to reach. Good job guys 🙂
Chachi – I’ve never been a part of a church plant so it’s been really cool to see God fulfilling promised from Acts to add to our numbers daily!
Are you from Delaware originally? If not, what brought you here and when?
We’re both from Columbia, MD and moved to the area to work for Cru with the Batts!
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Caleb – One of my favorite childhood memories is playing and building forts in the woods with my friends and my 3 brothers.
Chachi – My neighborhood in general. All of the families moved in at the same time and had kids the same age so we had the best time growing up playing outside. It was like having one massive family with 14 parents and over 40 siblings. We had huge parties and went on vacations all together. It was the best.
Instagram for both of us. In general it is a way to connect with friends and family and share ideas and get inspired, but now more than ever it’s a great way to quickly stay in contact with people.
What is your most practical life tip?
Caleb – Measure twice, cut once.
Chaci – Before you get into a really long line, walk to the front to make sure it’s the right line you want to be in. I learned that from my dad.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? Did you like it?
Caleb – Frog legs…Nah tasted like chicken and fish combined…both things I like but not together.
Chachi – I don’t know if this counts as weird because a whole continent of people love it, but my answer would be Vegemite from Australia. It tastes terrible.
